Why You Should Consider Thesis WordPress Theme As Your Company Web Site

thesis 1.8

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been going on and on about how easy it is to use WordPress as your web site AND blog.  Well, today, I decided to put my money where my mouth was.

I’ve purchased the new Thesis 1.8 theme for WordPress and have been experimenting.

I’m not at all technical, so I did have a few challenges as I stumbled my way around the theme.  But the good news is that in about a day, I created what you see here.  It isn’t REMOTELY in a finished state — the pictures are still drafts and I haven’t figured out how to have the thumbnails show from all my previous posts.  But I didn’t let any of that hold me back — and neither should you.

Over the course of the next few months, you’re going to see a lot of changes on this site as I learn and grow with this new theme.

Thesis is an SEO Expert in a Box

I recently received an email from a marketing consultant who said that their current client had basically gotten swindled by an SEO Consultant.  That’s really too bad.

The lesson is that you need to read and know enough of SEO NOT to end up paying for bad advice.  The best resource I can recommend is Aaron Walls SEOBook.com.  it is the Bible of SEO.

Now let’s say you can’t afford to have an SEO expert on hand every minute of the day.  This is why you might consider the WordPress Thesis Theme as the engine behind your web site and blog.

  1. It’s very customizable. Just take a look at some of these examples of web sites and blogs on Thesis.  You can do EVERYTHING and anything you heart desires.
  2. Powerful SEO. I’ve worked with themes that have the SEO Pack Plugin — which is a tool that allows you to insert customized Google friendly and web spider friendly keywords as Titles, and tags and meta tags so that more of your ideal customers can find you.
  3. Lots of experts. Because it’s a powerful and popular theme, there are lots of experts that can help you along the way.  If you’re ready to get help, then I’d recommend Content Robot.  They are an excellent crew and fairly affordable.

Love the new theme! I’ve added your blog, and particularly this post, to our virtual field trip in the OneCoach social media course, since it demonstrates so well many of the ideas we talked about in this week’s webinar.

Looks great! I’m interested to see how it affects your metrics, especially the bounce rate and average page views per visit. Share, maybe?

The site looks great! Does Thesis allow you add metatags to your pages?

    Hi Deb –

YES – that and MORE — so much more that I don’t understand all the extra fields I’m supposed to use :-)

I’m going to need a training class on all the new SEO and speed features that Thesis offers. Not to mention the fact that I have lots of basic features that aren’t set up yet —

    - Like getting my existing thumbnails to show up
    - Fixing the graphic so that it’s clearer (this is just my own draft placeholder while my designer is on vaca :-)
    - Getting my social media links in the upper right hand corner
    - Getting my feature article to span the 3 columns
    - Adding a gray footer section at the bottom with an admin/login section
    - Setting up boxes in the right hand columns that have “evergreen” articles

And that’s just the beginning. There are so many other tweaks I need to make that should make the site more professional and useful for the readers.

Do you have any ideas of what you think would be useful to you?

Aaron Wall’s SEOBook is indeed an AMAZING resource. SEO, SEM, and SMM suffer from a preponderance of “Guru’s” due to the low barrier of entry required for a practitioner to hang their single out there.

They’re all easy to do, but not easy to do well.

    Ivana,

It’s a smart woman who knows what she doesn’t know. Hiring a consultant may be the best route for most of us. Why would you expect expert results when you arn’t an expert?

  • http://thirdforce.net Ivana Taylor

Why thank you Dr. Bothwell. I’m not too good on the patience attribute. I vowed I would wait for my expert to do this, but I just couldn’t. It’s a good thing I didn’t mess it up. So I continue to play and learn until he comes back.

I have been using Thesis for a month. It was designed to be custom coded, but a little code goes a long way. I was able to create a unique look in about a week, with part of that time simply learning my way around it. I highly recommend Thesis.

Just purchased Thesis 1.8 and installed today! I have been very busy today trying to figure things out. Easy to do minimal things, not too easy to do more advanced. I tried to add code for twitter button for each post and let’s just say my site went down in a second. Thankfully 15 minutes later it was back! If you come across any basic training for thesis 1.8, please let me know. I tend to enjoy to do things on my own because you then learn…Trial by fire….Thanks for this post….and any advice on how to get twitter button on each post?
